Short Film Production
Short Film Production
Creating a short film production can be quite the adventure, as exemplified by our captivating production, “Fan 27”. The overwhelming local interest and support significantly eased what was initially perceived as a formidable task. Majority of the filming was done at the Rawhide Ball Park, an iconic landmark synonymous with the Arizona Diamond Backs Double-A team.
Whetting the public’s appetite was a casting call held at the ball park, a strategic move that exponentially amplified interest. Within two mere weeks, we had assembled our entire cast, with starring roles filled by Derek Talbott, Alexandra Anthony, Shannon Watson, and James Marshall Case. This project was truly a one-of-a-kind experience, buoyed by aid from the Visalia community and active involvement from the Visalia Rawhide’s Administrative team.
At the helm of our production was director Justin McAleece of Blare Video, collaboration with producers Ro Leon and Joseph Moffitt, backed by the skilled Blare Films crew. Post-Production and graphics wizardry were courtesy of Jason Wada. Spanning just three days, the film was shot using the cutting-edge Red Epic. Sarah-May Levy, our casting director, took charge of selecting key actors while the ever-eager Rawhide Ball Park group handled the extras casting. The turnout? Over 100 auditions. Indeed, creating “Fan 27” has been a journey we loved every step of!
Following the vigorous, yet exciting auditioning process, the task of refining the actors’ skills fell on the shoulders of our dedicated and talented acting coach, James Logan. James spent countless hours with each actor; molding them, lavishing time upon them, nurturing their on-screen presence. Each transformation was a sight to behold.
Meticulous attention was given to the script. Penned by expert scriptwriters, each scene was crafted with precision and planned down to the merest detail. This kind of detail-oriented focus ensured that the narrative flowed naturally, carrying the audience along its captivating current. The magnificent script was the bedrock upon which “Fan 27”, our short film, was built.
When it came to capturing these carefully crafted scenes, we leaned on the far-reaching expertise of our director of photography, Patricia Mattos. Patricia’s sharp aesthetic eye, honed through years of experience in the industry, enabled our team to capture each scene in its full glory. Lighting, composition, angles… every shot was planned and executed to precision.
Logistics and Set Design
Behind the scenes, a whirlwind of planning, coordination, and set preparation took place. Our Production Manager, Fred Porter, was the string that held the balloon; handling logistics, coordinating between departments, and managing schedules with an efficacy that can only be described as superhuman. Fred’s team, comprising set designers and art directors, transformed everyday locations into vibrant pieces of short film production terrain.
The Magic of Post-Production
In the world of filmmaking, post-production is like a magical cloak that brings everything together. And indeed, it was no less than magic when the raw footage was handed over to our genius editor, Mia Thompson, and her team. Numerous hours were spent trimming, arranging, and perfectifying each snippet of film; adding special effects and sound design. The end result? Absolute, breath-taking magic short film production.
In a nutshell, “Fan 27” did not come into existence overnight. From casting to shooting, editing to post-production, creating this short film was a team effort. Logistics and Set Design
Designing the set and managing logistics are crucial. A well-designed set not only complements the narrative of the short film production but also enhances its visual appeal. Involving a set designer with a keen eye for detail and creativity can make a distinct difference in how the scenes get translated on-screen. On the logistics side, planning schedules, securing the necessary permits, managering the budget, and coordinating every aspect of the shooting process is essential. With these elements in place, filming becomes a smoother and more manageable process.
The Magic of Post-Production
But it’s not over once the camera stops rolling. The magic continues in post-production, where the raw footage is polished into a cinematic gem. Skilled editors work meticulously, ensuring each scene transitions smoothly into the next. Sound designers, music composers, and color grading specialists add layers of depth to the film, ensuring it resonates emotionally with viewers. Finally, the film requires a potent promotional strategy and a distribution platform that guarantees it reaches your intended audience, thus completing the journey from a concept to a compelling short film.
