Rap Music Video

Rap Music Video

We had the pleasure of producing a Rap music video for notable rappers SPICE 1 and Layzie Bone. The vibrant cityscape of Oakland and its adjacent areas acted as our perfect canvas. Our equipment was minimalistic, primarily consisting of the advanced Red EPIC camera, a handful of lights, and a small yet dedicated crew. The entire project was very much an impromptu endeavor with most locations being spontaneously sought out and utilized. This venture brought about the thrilling opportunity to work closely with artists we admired in our formative years as up-and-coming filmmakers. The project was skillfully directed and edited by Marshall Day while Jeremy Owen showed exemplary work as the chief lighting technician.

Indeed, when considering the world of rap music video production, it’s impossible not to mention another groundbreaking artist, Layzie Bone. Emerging on the scene as a member of the powerhouse group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Layzie Bone’s contribution to rap music videos has been nothing short of significant.

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, with Layzie Bone at the helm, burst onto the rap scene in the mid-’90s, bringing a unique mix of rapid, melodic flows and gritty urban narratives. Their music videos, richly immersive and deeply evocative, transported viewers straight into their world. This distinct approach to storytelling through visuals played a pivotal role in the evolution of rap music videos, setting the pace for future artists.

As a solo artist, Layzie Bone carried this innovative spirit into his own music video production. His videos often delve into social issues and personal struggles, employing an edgy, realistic videography that resonates with fans worldwide. Artistry and impact remain the enduring themes in Layzie Bone’s career, creating a lineage of powerful, thought-provoking rap music videos that continue to inspire a new generation of creatives.

Rap music, a potent form of musical expression, first emerged within the African-American communities in the United States during the late 1970s. Interestingly, it began as DJs creating rhythmic beats by looping breaks on two turntables, which is now considered as the ‘break-beat’ style. These beats then served as a musical backdrop for the MCs to spin their rhythmic tales, blending poetry with the pulsating rhythm of street life, thereby creating a new, dynamic music genre.
