Hospital Commercial

We sincerely enjoyed crafting this remarkable hospital commercial for Scope Creative in Bakersfield, on behalf of the Bakersfield Heart Hospital. The complexity of this project was due to our ambitious concept of dropping tens of thousands of little red paper hearts, most of which are actually real. Needless to say, we encountered numerous potential issues, and the meticulous pick-up between takes was no small task. We owe the seamless creative direction to Jon Slagle, Jean-Luc Slagle, and the fantastic team at the Heart Hospital. By the way, if you’re feeling a twinge of familiarity rn, it’s likely because this commercial was influenced by another national spot. Our toolkit, courtesy of BLARE Video Los Angeles, consisted of an array of shiny boards, 12×12 bounces, alongside an eclectic selection of other grip equipment. Despite the challenges, this shoot was loads of fun – how could it not be when we were cruising around on a Fisher 10 dolly the entire time? We further raised the bar using an EPIC camera with custom diffusion and Canon L Series primes and zooms.

Often times, the amount of effort and precision that goes into the production of quality commercials might seem excessive. But there’s a crucial reason why attention to even the smallest detail matters. Let’s address that.

Firstly, hospital commercials are not simply about promoting services or advertising. They serve a much larger purpose. They are instrumental in forging a connection between the healthcare institution and the people it serves. This connection can only be made if the content is compelling, believable and high-quality. Therefore, the comprehensive planning, the meticulous execution, right down to the careful cleanups between takes, every one of these steps matter. They contribute to the making of a successful hospital commercial.

Secondly, quality production directly influences how viewers perceive the healthcare institution. A well-produced commercial reflects the hospital’s commitment to excellence, not merely in the realm of patient care, but through every touch-point it creates with the communities it serves. And when that touch-point involves a visual medium like television or the internet, the quality of the communication tool (the commercial, in this case) becomes paramount.

Envision this – a commercial video that’s grainy, poorly lit, and visually unappealing. Even if it carries a strong message, it might fail to resonate, get overlooked, or worse, create a negative impression about the hospital. On the contrary, a high-quality commercial lends credibility to the vital message it carries. It draws the viewer in, keeps them engaged, and gets the message across effectively.

Remember, you’re creating more than just a commercial. You’re fashioning a crucial bridge between the hospital and the viewer. The quality of this bridge directly impacts the strength of this connection.

To sum up, the quality of hospital commercial production has an irrefutable role in shaping the image of the healthcare institution, delivering its message effectively, and ultimately building stronger and more meaningful bonds with its audience. So, create wisely!

Imagine this: you’re in the process of creating a hospital commercial, and your team is all set, from scriptwriters to editors. Now consider this, have you thought about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and other compliance laws? If not, you should.

Even at the stage of video production, HIPAA plays a key part. Designed to protect patients’ personal health information and ensure privacy, these regulations can throw you a curveball if you’re not prepared.

The commercials you produce, while needing to be engaging and informative, also need to fully respect patients’ privacy rights. This means even seemingly innocuous information – like a patient’s name or image – can’t be included in the commercial without obtaining proper consent. Irregularities may make your hospital susceptible to legal penalties, even impacting your institution’s reputation.

Beyond HIPAA laws, your commercial production also needs to comply with various other laws such as the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). This law mandates that your video content should be accessible to all, ensuring you provide closed captions for individuals who are hard of hearing.

Moreover, consider the Federal Trade Commission’s Truth in Advertising rules, which ensure that any claims you make about your healthcare services are truthful, not misleading, and backed by evidence.

Compliance and design may seem to intersect at odds, but balancing both is absolutely a must. So when you embark on hospital commercial production, keep in mind the diverse terrain of legalities. An engaging and informative hospital commercial isn’t just about influential visuals and compelling scripts but should also navigate the labyrinth of industry-specific legal requirements.

It’s crucial to have a representation from the legal department during the recording of these videos. The involvement of a compliance officer, or a skilled individual who can approve what claims can be voiced or interpreted, is a necessity.
