Consider, if you will, an emotionally compelling commercial for a children’s hospital that we had the pleasure to create. Going into a filming session, preconceived notions of how the story will unfold are common. Yet, at times, you find your planned elements being restricted. This challenge presented itself during our online video production for Children’s Hospital, in which we were to spotlight Dallas Carr, the son of the future Oakland Raiders quarterback, Derek Carr. The hitch was that we couldn’t feature any babies on camera. No faces or characteristic features could be displayed, nor could nurses. Essentially, our options were limited to the Carr family alone. But, as they say, necessity drives invention. Faced with these limitations, we discovered unique perspectives, incorporated subtle storytelling techniques, and implemented innovative visual strategies. What originated as a simple half-day shoot evolved into a project of which we’re extremely proud. The content was filmed with Canon DSLR’s by Justin McAleece and Byron Watkins of Los Angeles video production, with direction by Byron Watkins, and production and editing by Windsong Productions.

On the surface, the requirements for this shoot might seem quite limiting for a children’s hospital video. Yet, think about the creative ways in which we can handle such a situation.
